Problem Statement

Students with special needs who transit from Special Education (SPED) schools to mainstream higher education need greater support as the school environments differ greatly. For instance, the fear of being stigmatised by their peers may cause them to hide their learning challenges, or they may lack confidence and social skills to interact with their peers.

Solution

Aptitude Buddy Club is a befriending-cum-training support programme for students with disabilities enrolled in ITE College West. It helps students with disabilities in the development of functional and social skills that they require in daily life to become independent adults.

Outcomes

This aims to support students with disabilities by:

- Enabling them to improve their social skills

- Providing opportunities to develop social skills for work and other collaborative settings

- Reducing social stigma surrounding in school and in the society
