Problem Statement
Only a small number of persons with disabilities are employed in Singapore, and those who are excluded from the workforce experiences a significant impact on their overall well-being. The employment gap amongst persons with disabilities can be attributed to the following factors: inaccessibility of workplaces, low pay and lack of career progression, deprivation of skills training, as well as stigma and discrimination.
Solution
SPD's contact centre-cum-training hub creates employment opportunities and provides various training programmes to enhance the employability of higher-functioning and job-ready persons with disabilities.
Outcomes
This project by SPD aims to:
- Create employment opportunities for higher-functioning and job-ready persons with disabilities to empower them to be financially independent
- Equip persons with disabilities with generic and industry-specific knowledge and skills to ensure a sustainable and successful employment
- Inspire other organisations to hire persons with disabilities by sharing best practices on disability-inclusive hiring
