Problem Statement
There is a significant need to address communication gaps faced by persons who are deaf or hard of hearing in both face-to-face social interactions and access to voice calls.
Solution
An on-demand Zoom video call service will be set up via Zoom to support person who are deaf or hard of hearing, offering sign-language interpreters for effective communication.
Key uses for this service include:
• Providing sign-language interpretation during public engagements;
• Offering sign-language interpretation during voice calls;
• Providing real-time on-screen captions during voice calls.
Outcomes
The project aims to empower persons who are deaf or hard of hearing to live independently without having to rely on dedicated companions, family members and/or friends.
More about grantee
The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) has been serving the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing community for the past six decades.
The association is also affiliated, internationally, to the World Federation of the Deaf and, locally, to the Children Charities’ Association.
